East Cares

Helping students in our own school community...

Do you need food for lunch or for the weekend?  Personal hygiene items?  If so, visit the Main Office and ask about East Cares.  We don't want anyone to go hungry or not have basic items we can gladly provide.  Friday Food Bags are available through the offices for any student who needs one.
East Cares focuses on helping students in need by gladly providing food, clothing, and personal care items.  If you are interested in making a donation, please call (307) 771-2663 and ask about East Cares -- it is a great way to give back to your local community.

Calling in for appointments

When calling in for a Blue Pass for your student to leave school for an appointment, please call at least 30 minutes before your child needs to leave the school to give time for the pass to be written and delivered to your child.

Spring Break Tutoring

The TBird Academy (Room 347) will be open Monday-Wednesday, March 30-April 1, 2020, from 9 a.m. to noon for students needing extra assistance in their courses; to make up missing assignments, tests, or GVCs; a quiet place to work; or access to a computer.

Tutors will be available to help students in English, math, science, and social studies.

ACT Testing Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Juniors will be taking the ACT on April 21, 2020, paper version.

  • Breakfast will be available for all students testing between 7:15-7:40 a.m. in the cafeteria.
  • Juniors must check into their assigned testing room by 7:45 a.m.
  • Testing will begin promptly at 8 a.m.
  • Testing will conclude around 1:10 p.m. Grab-and-Go lunches will be available after testing for juniors to grab.
  • Testing room assignments are posted by the offices and the library.

Students must bring:

  • A writing utensil. (The test is online but students may want a writing utensil for scratch work)
  • a photo ID
  • an approved calculator (Click for the ACT Calculator Policy)

Students may not have in the testing room:

  • food or drink – East will provide snacks and drinks in the halls during breaks
  • notes, scratch paper, dictionaries
  • CELL PHONE -- students may not use their cell phone for the duration of the test

Make-up Test Date: Thursday, April 23, 2020, off campus, online version -- more details to follow.

  • Seniors are invited to the T-Bird Academy, Room 347, to work on college applications, scholarships, and school work.

Poetry Out Loud

National Poetry Out Loud, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, will hold its annual competition April 27-29, 2020, in Washington D.C.

The city-wide Cheyenne Poetry Out Loud competition will be Jan. 15, 2020, at the Laramie County Library. Interested students grades 9-12 must register by Jan. 8, 2020, 5 p.m., by contacting Rachel Christoph at  Please include the following information: student's name, grade, school, and poetry selection.  Students will be judged on recitation from memory, presence, vocal inflection, and will choose one poem to perform.

The state-wide Wyoming Poetry Out Loud competition will be March 2, 2020, at Laramie County Community College.  Go here for Wyoming-specific information.

The each state champion will receive $200, an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete at the National Finals, and a $500 school stipend for the purchase of poetry materials.  The first runner-up will receive $100 and a $200 school stipend.

A total of $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be awarded at the Poetry Out Loud National Finals:

  • $20,000 award for the National Champion
  • $10,000 award for the second-place winner
  • 5,000 award for the third-place winner
  • $1,000 awards for 4th-9th place winners
  • $500 for their schools for the purchase of poetry books.
  • $1,000 awards for one runner-up in each semifinal competition/$500 school stipend.
    (Those student will not advance to the finals.)

Students received their PL-874 forms during their 2A class on 10/30.  The forms should have been completed and returned by Monday, 11/4. Students, if you received a form and have not returned it, please do so. Thank you.

Dropping off Students in the morning

Please be considerate of others when dropping off or picking up students.  Please do not block the drive but pull in to parking spaces or at least only stop in the lane closest to the building so others are not delayed.

Post-Season Competition for TBirds

Volleyball, girls swim, and football teams are competing in post-season play the next few days.

  • East Volleyball @ State Tournament (Thursday-Saturday)
    • East vs. Riverton @ 3 p.m. Thursday, 11/7/2019
  • East Girls Swimming @ State Meet on Friday & Saturday, 11/8-9/2019
  • East Football vs. Thunder Basin (Semi Final Playoff Game) @ 6 p.m. Friday, 11/8/2019

The volleyball state tournament and Friday's football game can be viewed on the NFHS Network.  Because these are post-season events, there is a $9.95 fee for a month, but that would cover all remaining events.  Catch all of the action here: NFHS Network.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parents are invited to meet with their student's teachers from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the East High School gyms or individually in classrooms from 1:15 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019.  Please limit the time to 5 minutes with each teacher.

Parade cancelled...

The Homecoming Parade, scheduled for Friday, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled due to the expected winter storm and cold temperatures.

Please plan on attending the Homecoming Tailgate Party at 5 p.m. with free hamburgers and hot dogs for our East High community followed by the Homecoming Game against Central.

Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. at Okie Blanchard Stadium.

LCSD 1 seeks
public feedback

Survey will be available starting Monday, Sept. 16.

Laramie County School District 1 is seeking feedback from its stakeholders. Parents/guardians, students, staff and community members are invited to participate in an online survey, which will be open Sept. 16-28.

As part of the district’s accreditation process, representatives from the Wyoming Department of Education will review and compile the surveys. They will share the results with LCSD1 administrators during an accreditation visit Nov. 5 and 6.

The survey will help identify strengths and areas that may need improvement or additional attention. Information will be used to provide direction in the school and district improvement process.

Student ID/School photos

The last opportunity for student IDs and school photos will be Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in the Performance Hall.

Student photos taken at registration have arrived and can be picked up in the student offices.  IB students need to go to the regular class offices to pick up their photos.  Students who need retakes should bring their packets Thursday and go to the Performance Hall.

Students who also want a replacement ID will be charged $5.

Wyoming Summer Youth Writer's Camp

Join other young Wyoming writers at this 3-day adventure in beautiful Curt Gowdy State Park.

Participants will be writing daily; going on discovery hikes; and reading, discussing, and practicing writing in a variety of genres.
